Review After a shipwreck, a crew is stranded on a deserted island. With very little food they must find some way to survive. The only thing there seems to be plenty of is mushrooms... However, these aren't ordinary mushrooms. After eating them you become addicted to them and begin to turn into a mushroom monster.
I found the movie to be rather boring. The story develops slowly and by the end of the movie it feels as if nothing of importance has happened. Perhaps if the characters had more character development and were more likable, I would have cared what happened to them. So the characters and story aren't interesting, but how do the monsters fare? They are seen very little of until the end of the film; which is probably for the better, as these monster mushrooms are incredibly lame. If you get close enough to them they either attempt to hug you or use a laugh that would make any man go insane.
As you can tell I didn't find much to enjoy. Maybe Matango was worth seeing when it was originally released over 40 years ago, but it's easily skippable today.
Overall:
Ryan Frost, 2005 |
Content
Language Small amount of profanity.
Violence There is a bit of violence when someone is shot, and a mushroom people get shot at and hit as well. Nothing to really worry about.
Sex A scene of sexuality when a guy is dreaming/fantasizing about scantily clad women dancing around.
