Gantz vol. 1 | |
|
Review Gantz is something that has rarely been done and it is completely uncut, uncensored, and uneditted. This show is just hardcore with violence, blood, guts, and realism. I loved it. I'm just upset they are doing a mere two episodes per disc, which is a huge waste of disc space not to mention shelf space. The show starts out following Kei in class, and portrays him as a pervert. After class he goes to the subway and the show focuses in on his thoughts and everyone elses. Everyone's thoughts seem to be extremely selfish and uncaring. A drunk falls down onto the track and nobody is willing to help. Kei notices his childhood friend Masaru, who he hasn't seen in years, jump down on the tracks to help. As he looks up and asks someone to help him carry the drunkard up, he notices Kei. With selfish thoughts running through his head, he reluctantly jumps down to help. They barely manage to lift him up before they notice the train coming. Unable to jump up they try to outrun the train hoping it will stop before hitting them. However, this train happens to be express and doesn't stop at this station, they're hit and body parts fly. Kei and Masaru find themselves in a room with others saying stuff like, "There's more coming." They find out everyone in the room had recently died or atleast thought they did. In the center of the room is a round sphere with green text that appears and disappears like a message to the people in the room. Unable to escape from the room, they're forced to obey the commands of the sphere. In episode two it starts where the story was left off. After reading their command to kill a green alien, weapons and suits come out of the sphere. Suddenly the people start vanishing as Kei strips and puts on one of the suits and he also vanishes. They find themselves on the street. One of the guys has a GPS tracking device pin-pointing the aliens location. Some people head off in other directions trying to go home, and a few head towards the alien. From this point the shows brutality manifests into gore and violence as most the characters are slaughtered. Some may think those characters didn't need to be there, however I think they added a realism to the storyline, as you can't just magically start out with the three main characters like it's some kind of coincidence. The story was so interesting it seemed to draw me in. It has more gore and violence then any show I've seen, however, I found it added a sense of realism, which most shows seem to deny due to TV censorship. I highly recommend the first volume of Gantz.
