Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu | |

Review If you haven't seen the original series, you can still jump into Fumoffu because it isn't a sequel. However, I do believe that if you've seen and liked the first series, you will enjoy Fumoffu even more. And even though this series was handled by a different director and animation studio, the characters I've grown to love are all back and funnier than before. The first two episodes are divided in half, so this volume basically has four 10 minute episodes and one regular length episode. Sosuke's job is to protect Chidori, so he attends the same school as her so he can be around her more, but things don't always go the way they should when many of Sosuke's decisions and reactions are based on his military training. But not to worry, that is part of what makes this series is so much fun. He always ends up doing abnormal things, like detonating his shoe locker with explosives because he thought someone rigged a bomb in it after he saw a suspicious hair next to it, or getting in the lunch line, pulling his gun out and shooting it in the air and demanding a plain roll. One of the episodes I really enjoyed is when Sosuke is having trouble with his homework, so Chidori lets Sosuke borrow her notes, but he forgets the bring them back the next day. She panics, knowing that if she doesn't have it with her before class starts she will have to take a remedial lesson. They both end up going on a hilarious trip back to Sosuke's apartment. On their way back to school, they ride double on a stolen bike and end up getting seen by the cops. However, instead of cooperating, Sosuke attempts to outrun them, which results in a humorous chase scene with some breathtakingly beautiful animation as Sosuke stunningly maneuvers throughout the city streets, desperately trying to get back to school before class starts. The only normal length episode on this disc is the beach episode, and I'm not complaining. I love beach episodes, they are generally lots of fun and are a good excuse to get the cast into their bathing suits. Chidori bought a new bathing suit that she hoped would catch Sosuke's attention, but he doesn't seem to notice. Disappointed, she goes off on her own and ends up getting invited to a rich boy's house. Sosuke realizes that she has been gone for far too long and and begins to worry. When he finds out where she is, he goes on a rescue mission and invades the mansion, encountering some bodyguards, one of them a killer chef. Personally, I loved the original series, and I'm ecstatic that more of it was made. I highly recommend picking up Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, it's undoubtedly one of the best comedy series available.
