Elfen Lied vol. 1

Review
Kohta and his cousin Yuka find a naked girl with pink hair standing on the beach. They take the girl to Kohta's house and find out that she doesn't even know how to do basic things like change her clothes. She also doesn't seem to understand what they are saying, so they name her Nyu because that is the only thing she says.

What they don't know is that she is a mutant, called a diclonious. Through the use of long invisible hands called vectors, she she has the ability to tear a person to shreds with the slightest touch. She just escaped a laboratory she was constrained in by killing everyone in her way. However, she seems to share two different personalities. At the laboratory she is known as Lucy, a violent mutant, but to Kohta and the others she is Nyu, a cute, innocent girl. Lucy's personality is capable of communicating with people, but Nyu only says "Nyu."

The laboratory sends out some special units to search the city and dispose of her because they can't have something as dangerous as her roaming around in public. However, they are no match for her when her other personality takes over and end up as just another one of her many victims. So they send out another younger female diclonious to do the job.

Unsurprisingly, all the girls end up staying at Kohta's house for various reasons. He even invites a little girl to stay at his house believing she is homeless. Yuka has had her eyes set on Kohta since they were children, and now that he is back in her life again she hopes they can be together. However, Nyu is constantly doing weird things like walking in the room naked or putting Kohta's hand on her breast which gets Yuka a little jealous at times.

The first thing that stuck out in Elfen Lied is that it is a very violent show. Aside from all of blood, eyes are punctured, hearts are ripped out and limbs are severed. There is also quite a bit of detailed nudity, mostly from Lucy, during bath scenes and Kohta's attempt at changing her clothes.

So far I've found the show to be quite fascinating. I was hooked right from the opening scene where Lucy is breaking out of the laboratory to the end of the disc. I'm really curious to see where it goes.
