Cyberteam in Akihabara vol. 1 | |
|
Review Cyberteam in Akihabara starts off with Hibari, the main female lead, running out of her elementary school - she has just graduated to junior high. That night she has a dream about her prince, and the next day she finds that spot she saw in her dream and she finds a PataPi, believing her prince gave it to her. A PataPi is a cute little robot that has an almost insect like appearance. They seem to take after their owners and it is possible to buy upgrades for them. Apparently these PataPi's are very popular as almost everyone in school has one. Taking a shortcut home from school, she runs into a large breasted woman who is trying to capture her PataPi. She corners Hibari and this incident forces her PataPi to evolve into a Diva. We aren't told yet how or why these PataPi evloved, but they seem to whenever their owners are in a tight situation. What really stands out here is how the Diva's do the fighting instead of the characters. Strangely, there hasn't been much interaction between the girls and their PataPi's while they are in Diva form. Unfortantely, the next two episodes follow almost the exact same setup as the first. Each character battles the exact same female villian and her monsters, and each one of them has their PataPi transform into a Diva. The next two episodes were more enjoyable than the previous three and basically follow the typical magical girl format. Some of the scenes are silly and there is a certain level of cuteness that runs throughout the show. The characters are fun and I found their quibbling funny. And judging from the opening, it looks like there are two more girls that will be introduced to complete the cyberteam. The animation isn't bad, but you can see the limitations of the TV size budget. Fight scenes in magical girl shows generally aren't the most exciting, and that applies here as well. Cyberteam in Akihabara is a strange one - At this point I'm not sure what to think. I am interested in seeing more as 3 characters that have been introduced thus far are beginning to grow on me. Hopefully it picks up from here.
