A Tree of Palme | |

Review A Tree of Palme is a lengthy movie with a running time of just over two hours and fifteen minutes. However, not once did I feel as if it was dragging on nor was I bored one bit. There is a lot of information and details in this rich, unique world that the animators created. Palme, a robot created from a Kuroop tree created to help keep a man's sick wife, Xian, company. When Xian died, Palme became lifeless doll that never really moved again. A mysterious woman suddenly shows up one night which awakens Palme, believing that she is Xian. She gives Palme an object called the Egg of Touto, telling him to bring it to Tamas, a division of the world below theirs. On his journey, Palme comes accross characters that join him on his quest. They have their own reasons for going on the trip and they help portray some of the themes in the film. Scattered throughout the movie is a host of unique plants, creatures and vehicles that populate the strange world. The further you get into the movie the more peices of the puzzle are revealed as you begin to understand it's complex world and themes. It might take multiple viewings to understand a lot of the minor details. The film uses a lot of murky colors producing many dark scenes. The animation isn't awe-inspiring, but it's fluid with a number of well done moments. Some CG is used which looks good and flows nicely with the animation. The character designs are simplistic but it doesn't belittle their effectiveness. I really liked this movie even though it is slowly paced. A Tree of Palme has an engrossing story, dynamic characters, gorgeous animation and best of all, it's very entertaining. I Highly recommend it, but it's not for everyone. Extras
