Review In the year 2050, the Inbit invaded the Earth. The Earth fought back but they were defeated. Many people managed to escape to a Mars base colony and now it is up to them to defeat the Inbit and save the survivors on Earth.
Released just a year after Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, you can definitely see many similarities between the two. From the transformable fighter jets, to the music concerts, and even the story.
The intial premise about a Mars colony trying to take back the Earth from the invaders kept me interested, but the story builds very slow and I wish we learned more about the Inbit. Many of the episodes just barely touch on the overall story, mostly revolving around finding new towns and fighting the Inbit. It starts to get tedious when the characters are constantly saying "*gasp* a town is HERE? Oh no! Here come the Inbit!" every episode when I'm wanting to see the story advance.
From a technical standpoint the show still holds up fairly well. The music does a respectable job from the concerts to the battle BGM. Its good stuff, although it does get repetative. Character designs do have an old school, simple-drawn look to them which some people may not like, but I didn't have any problems with them. I really liked the Legioss fighter jet design and the action scenes look pretty cool.
Unfortunately, a lot of the episodes are merely passable, borderline entertainment. And honestly, I don't know if I'll ever have the desire to revisit it. I'd recommend skipping this one.
Overall:
Ryan Frost, 2004 |
Content
Language An average amount of profanity.
Violence There is a lot of action in the show, but its mostly robot vs robot, and the violence level is pretty low. Sometimes there is a small amount of blood when characters are injured but its nothing to worry about.
Sex There are scenes of nudity throughout the show (guessing around 7 scenes), mostly female.
