All Purpose Cat Girl Nuku Nuku

Anime Info
Type:  OVA
Length:  6 episodes
Genre:  Comedy
Summary
Kyusaku Natsume transfers the brain of a dying cat that his son, Ryunosuke, found on the street into the body of a female android. She has incredible power and speed, which means that Mishima Heavy Industries' military products don't stand a chance against her. The only real problem here is that the president of M.H.I. is Akiko - Ryunosuke's mother!
Review
The All Purpose Cat Girl Nuku Nuku is comprised of episodic tales of cat girl adventures and family problems. A light-hearted show with some comedy that got a few chuckles from me. Ryunosuke's parents are divorced and he is currently living at his dad's house with Nuku Nuku. We watch as Nuku Nuku goes to school, goes to the beach, and works a part-time job as a waitress. There is some action at the end of most episodes when Akiko's henchwomen show up to put an end to Nuku Nuku. There isn't any resolution in the ending, but it does end on a good note.

Aside from the two androids, I can't say that I really like the cast all that much. Nuku Nuku isn't too special, but she is definitely the highlight of the show. She's cute, innocent, and best of all, a cat girl. Ryonosuke and his father are O.K. characters, but there isn't anything that makes them particularly likeable. For the most part, I find Akiko to be annoying thanks to her selfish personality that I despise. Eimi, the other android introduced in episode four, is one that I actually find amusing. Her constant fighting with Nuku Nuku is fun, but she only appears in two episodes.

The show looks good with smooth OVA quality animation. There is some fanservice sprinkled throughout the episodes, mostly in the form of panty shots. There are two different openings and endings songs by Megumi Hayashibara which are decent, but they aren't my favorite songs of hers. I would also have like it if the openings used original animation instead of scenes from the episodes.

For me, the All Purpose Cat Girl Nuku Nuku OVA is one of those shows that is satisfactory, but I don't get a whole lot out of it. It's a simple series that is not very memorable, so it's likely to sit on the shelf for quite some time collecting dust. This is an easy series to pass up, but there is some fun to be had.
