Summary At the Yokota Base in Japan, a nervous American military is on the brink of the Vietnam War. But a greater threat exists within the walls of the heavily-guarded compound: Vampires. |
Review I like Blood: The Last Vampire, but in some ways it falls a little short. The plot needed more explaining and more time to do it in. Basically, this girl has to go around killing the last remaining Vampires. But they don't tell us why or how the vampires ever got there. A part of this problem arises from the movie being only 40 minutes long, making it feel like it's over before you know it.
The only way to kill the vampires is to make them lose enough blood in one blow, meaning gunshots won't kill them. The bullets do hurt them, but they won't die. That's were Saya comes in. She uses her sword to cut a large gash in the vampires, causing blood to fly all over the place.
The animation in Blood is nothing short of amazing. Some of the evironments in the film are done in CG which looks really good and makes the environment look almost real. The vampires actually look scary, but they look more like demons than vampires. The animation is excellent, but I wouldn't expect anything less from a movie this short. One of the neat aspects is how the characters speak both Fnglish and Japanese throughout the film, which makes sense considering the setting.
Overall, it's a pretty good movie that has nice visuals and quite a bit of action, but is too short and doesn't explain itself much. Recommended for those who want to watch something dark.

Content
Language There is quite a bit of swearing throughout, including the 'F' word.
Violence This is one of the more violent anime films I have seen. Because of it's short length, there is only room for a few fight scenes, but they are very bloody.
Sex There is one very brief scene of detailed upper body nudity where it shows a dead women that was killed in a bath tub.
