Review
Audio
The background music is mostly heavy metal which fits the series well. The lyric-less opening theme is good stuff, while the ending song is average. The Japanese VAs do a good job.

Visuals
Geneshaft has got some nice visuals. It does use a quite a bit of 3-D CG, but it blends nicely with the 2-D animation and looks good for the most part. The character art and animation are good throughout.

Story/Entertainment
Geneshaft is a sci-fi series that takes place almost entirely in a spaceship. Humans are being genetically engineered with a ratio of 1:9, male:female. By genetically engineering humans, the government hopes to create peace by making humans the way they want. Now a mysterious Ring is attacking the Earth and a group of people with the best skills have been recruited to destroy the Ring using a weapon called the Shaft (some mecha robot).

The animation and music are pretty slick, but I found myself having a hard time enjoying Geneshaft. A large part of this is because most of the characters are not very likable. They are so prideful and they get into annoying fights often. And the way they battle against the Ring is a joke. To battle against the Ring they use the Shaft, but it has bugs in the system and they have to program it almost every time they go out in it. That's right, program. Now I actually like programming, but whoever thought this would make for an entertaining battle, it's not. Okay, so it wasn't too bad...the first time, but it is used many times throughout the show. It's just kind of lame.

Those are my two main gripes with Geneshaft. The show does get a little more interesting half way through; the story starts to move along, and characters get a little more interesting, but it's average at best and not to the point where I can recommend this series. If you're looking for some good Sci-Fi I recommend checking out something else.

Content

Language
There is a very small amount of profanity throughout.
Violence
There are a few violent and bloody scenes where people get shot.
Sex
There is one scene of very brief nudity. The main cast of female characters wear skin tight outfits and there are a couple of scenes with female characters wearing very little clothing.
