Review
My-Hime is a big budget show filled action, drama, and lots of cute girls. The show is mostly light-hearted and fun for the first half or so, but it gets darker and the drama really kicks in later on. The show does start off a little slow, with a few almost fillerish episodes, but they help build the characters and are quite fun. The show takes off in the later episodes and pulls together everything it had built up earlier in the series.

The cast is large, yet thankfully each character is developed enough. The girl's romantic feelings for others plays a big part in the series. The main relationship quadrangle is also pretty much wrapped up by the end of the series, and while it doesn't make too much progress, it doesn't beat around the bush either.

The show looks great. A lot of excellent character designs and good artwork all around. Animation quality is also top-notch, with nice, vibrant colors. The action scenes are nicely animated. Hime have normal powers, like Mai's fire and Natsuki's pistols. They also control powerful creatures called Childs, which have some neat designs. Being a show filled with attractive young girls, there is a good helping of fanservice.

The show is full of surprises, and sometimes left me a bit dumbfounded, though it was often explained later. My-Hime can be a somewhat bumpy ride. One aspect of the ending makes a huge reversal, which makes sense story-wise, but at the same time it seems to negate a lot of the prior events. Some aspects of the story are not clearly stated, and is part of the reason the show stands up really well on the re-watch.

My-Hime is a solid and entertaining series from start to finish. The setup of the series and the way many things play out is well done. My-Hime is a lot of fun to watch. Recommended.

Content

Language
A little bit of profanity.
Violence
Fights to the death and some blood. Nothing too graphic though.
Sex
Some near nudity, like girls in a bath, and a bit of undetailed nudity. Lesbian themes. On the DVD release there is an extra couple minutes of footage after each episode, which almost always feature the girls in some state of undress.
