Review
Audio
I have mixed feelings on the music. I really enjoyed the upbeat tunes that are played during the fights and ending credits, but there is one song that is played a few times during the movie that I found to be a little annoying. The dub for this movie is average. Most of the voices fit the characters good (except Noa), but sometimes when they try to show emotion they sound awkward. The sound effects are nice and realistic.

Visuals
Patlabor 1 The Movie was originally released in 1989, but the animation still holds up pretty good. It especially shines during the fight scenes. The art is really good. The mech designs are absolutely incredible, they have a realistic design and they look very cool. The character designs are what I would expect from this show, nothing flashy, just well drawn.

Story/Entertainment
In the year 1999, Labors, giant robots, are used to help with large scale construction. The Tokyo Mobile Police also use Labors to combat criminals who use Labors for illegal purposes. Recently, there has been an increasing number of Labors going berserk and rampaging through the city, and it's up to the Tokyo Mobile Police to solve this mystery.

The story is actually much more complex than that, with numerous references to the bible thrown in to increase the depth of the story. I enjoy this movie more and more as I re-watch it and discover more things that I hadn't picked up in previous viewings. However, I don't think this movie is for everyone. This is one of the slowest paced films I have ever seen, and there is very little action except near the end. This movie is for the mature-minded viewer due to the complexity of the plot and slow pacing. I think this is a great movie to pick up if you fit the above qualification, otherwise you will probably be bored.

Overall:
Ryan Frost, 2002
Content

Language
The Japanese language has a small amount of minor profanity. The English version has quite a bit more, it's not overabundant, but there's definitely no shortage.
Violence
There is not that much fighting throughout the movie. Most of it is robot vs. robot with some people firing guns at robots. Nothing to worry about, as the only thing that really gets hurt/destroyed are buildings and machines.
Sex
There is no nudity or any sexuality. Very clean.
